You don’t get what you want, you get what you think about

I was thinking about how important our words are. If our thoughts determine our beliefs which determine our actions which determine our results, then it seems to me that it is very important what determines our thoughts. Because if you believe the aforementioned formula, which I do, then our thoughts determine the results we get in our lives. Do you want different results in your life or are you happy with what you’re getting?  If you want to change your results, change your thoughts. How do we do this? Well, it appears to me that what we input into our heads will change our thoughts.  If we want change, that means we should change whatever we’re putting into our heads. The first thing that comes to mind is that we should pay attention to is what we read. Everything we read goes into our heads and we form opinions about all of it. It shapes our thoughts. The second thing that comes to mind is what we say and hear. And all day long, we are saying stuff, both to other people and ourselves. If we’re constantly saying things like, “I’ll never get ahead,” or “It never works out for me,” or “I’ll probably never get a promotion,” guess what you’re thinking all the time. We’ve got to change the way we talk to ourselves. I mean if we’re going to talk to ourselves anyway, shouldn’t it be about something that’ll help us and not hurt us?
Let me tell you something that I learned from somebody else a long time ago. You don’t get what you want, you get what you think about! So if we’re constantly telling ourselves negative things, guess what we’re thinking about?! It’s not difficult when you really think about it. Ephesians 5:18-19 tells us that we should SPEAK in psalms and hymns and songs from the Spirit. Proverbs 18:21 tells us that the power of life and death is in the tongue. You think this is important? Uh, yeah!
